Santa Stampede 10K To Host USATF Championship

14369_72098_2373The 12th annual Santa Stampede 10K will host the USA Track and Field State 10K Championship. The race will be held Saturday, December 10 at Hudson Gardens in Littleton. Runners competing in the Santa Stampede 10K will be vying for a state title in several age categories. The open race is for runners ages 16 and older. The masters category is for runners ages 40 and older, and then in five year age categories. Medals and bragging rights will be awarded to the top placing USATF Colorado members in each age category. To be eligible for prizes, athletes must be USATF Colorado Association members, residents of Colorado and citizens of the United States who are eligible to represent the United States in all levels of international competition. Free elite entries are available.

This race doesn’t just appeal to elite athletes. With Santa hats, finisher’s medals, and more, this is a great value and a family friendly fun run. A free kid’s race will kick off the festivities at 8:45 am, followed by the 5K at 9 am, and the 10K at 10:15 am. Runners and walkers of all ages and paces are welcome.

The Santa Stampede 5K and 10K is part of the Winter Distance Series, a three-race series that is currently celebrating a decade of winter running. In addition to enjoying a flat and fast 5K and 10K race that travels the paved Platte River Trail, runners and walkers will receive a Santa hat, polycotton blend shirt, chip timing, and a party-like atmosphere at the finish with yummy food and drink, including muffins and cookies. More than 20 vendors will have booths at the finish line.

14369_72098_3095Runners Roost will help the winners of each race celebrate with a new pair of New Balance shoes and they are also giving $20, $15, and $10 gift certificates to first, second, and third place age group winners in every race. The age groups are as follows: 14 and under, and then five year age groups up to 80+. The Runners Roost gift cards will be awarded to all age group winners, regardless of whether they are current USATF members.

A prerace packet pickup will be held at Runners Roost Lone Tree from 5-7 pm on Friday. The store will be offering 25% off New Balance products. Runners can also register for the race at the packet pickup. On race morning, packet pick up and registration will begin at 7:30 am.
